AS 2210.3 is the Australian Standard that applies to all safety footwear, ensuring that work boots and shoes provide adequate protection in hazardous environments. Originally, all safety boots featured a steel cap - today, the safety cap can be made of any material as long as it meets the relevant performance criteria.

The Standard comprises several parts including the requirement for toe protection (impact), slip resistance, electrical hazard protection,  puncture resistance, water resistance and breathability. To be sold in Australia, safety footwear must meet this standard - look for the Standard labelling on your next pair of boots.
