The Dangers of DIY 2

A 10 year study in Victoria found you are 9x more likely to be injured at home than at work resulting in a emergency or hospital admission. This has been largely attributed to the rising popularity of DIY with television shows such as Channel 9's 'The Block'.

In this Study it was found that the number of injuries caused at home has increased up to 47% in the past 10 years due to a number of factors:

  • High cost of hiring a professional
  • Long wait times
  • Availability of low cost tools and materials
  • Increasing popularity of DIY television programmes
  • Online Information - WWW and YouTube

The report identified the highest DIY Risks at Home -

Men - Grinders, Welders, Car Maintenance
Women - Gardening
All - Mowers, Ladders
